The First 10 Days Without Social Media on My Phone -A Review-

Good evening! I hope you are all doing fantastic on this Tuesday night (or whenever you are reading this). Today’s blog is going to be an overview and personal reflection of how the last 10 days have gone- specifically through the lens of my goals I have made in my last blog: 100 Days With 0% Social Media.

If you weren’t here last week- here is the list of goals I was working on during the last 10 days:

September 17- September 27 (Base Habits)

  • 15 minutes meditation daily
  • Take vitamins (prenatal, probiotics, vitamin c), insulin, & 100 oz water a day
  • Sleep 8-10 hours a night (Goal bedtime: 8-10pm; Goal wake up: 6am-8am)

Reflection of My Goals

First off, I was not perfect in completely any of these goals. Not at all- but I did SO MUCH BETTER on doing these daily habits because they were on my mind. Nearly every night I reflected on how I did and what I needed to work on. The daily reminder and having these things on the forefront of my mind, resulted in me drinking more water and taking my vitamins on a more consistent basis than I have in years.

The goal I struggled with the most was setting aside time to meditate…or rather staying conscious while meditating. This sounds funny- even to me- but it was true. For those of you who don’t know, I am currently expecting and that has created some extra…sleepiness…to set in. I would finally find time to sit and meditate and I would pass out in the middle. I am proud of myself that I attempted to set aside time to be mindful and present in the moment- even though it wasn’t perfect. I also would like to note that as I journaled every night, it brought a similar peace and awareness as meditation often does. While it’s not in the typical sense, I feel that I actively meditated nearly everyday.

My easiest goal to attain was taking my vitamins and insulin. Both of these things are not time consuming and help both myself and the little one I was growing, so it was easy to remember and stay motivated.

Room For Improvement

So, as I said- I wasn’t perfect…so that means…there’s room for improvement! As I reviewed the past 10 days here is what I noticed I could do to improve and make it easier on myself to accomplish my goals.

  1. An easy drinking jar. You might be like…what? What I mean is that I purchased myself a giant 32oz jar that I genuinely like drink out of and it will be an easy way to keep track of how much water I drink. My goal is 3 jars (96 oz) and the other 4 oz to reach 100oz will be accounted for in the coffee or tea drink I have for the day.
  2. Picking a meditation space. I was attempting to meditate in my bed because it was comfy…but it was too comfy. I think finding a designated space for myself will trigger my brain into meditation mode and separate myself from the idea of sleep.
  3. In sight, In mind. While I did good, I think placing my vitamins in a place I see them everyday and in a space where it is easy to take them (bathroom or kitchen) will be beneficial in making this goal even easier to accomplish.

The Next Ten Days

So in my plan that I detailed in the 100 Days of 0% Social Media blog, I explained that every ten days I will be adding goals to my base habits (the goals I worked on in the first ten days) and that will combine into the daily goals for the following ten days. So, without further ado, here is the plan for the next ten days.

(Base Habits)

  • 15 minutes meditation daily
  • Take vitamins (prenatals, probiotics, vitamin c), insulin, & 100 oz water a day
  • Sleep 8-10 hours a night (Goal bedtime: 8-10pm; Goal wake up: 6am-8am)

Added Habits: September 28- October 08

  • 15 minutes of intentional movement
  • Add 5 minutes of meditation (Total 20 minutes)

New/Combined List of Goals for the Next Ten Days

  1. 20 minutes meditation daily
  2. Take Vitamins (prenatals, probiotics, vitamin c), insulin, & 100 oz water
  3. 15 minutes of intentional movement
  4. Sleep 8-10 hours a night (Goal bedtime: 8-10pm; Goal wake-up time: 6-8am)

Overall & Ending Thoughts

I think overall- this has been a great decision for me. As a disclaimer this is my own journey and everyone is different…but one thing I think that everyone should take from this is: growth and self-reflection is such an important thing that can sometimes become stagnant in the mindless busy-ness of life. It has definitely been interesting seeing myself kind of struggle to find what I want to do without a phone in my hand and I am excited to see the growth, struggles, and benefits of this journey without constant social media.

  1. Great work, Kayte! Many things seem easy, but actually doing them is something else! Probably most people don’t realize how much time they spend on social media and don’t stop to realize what things they could actually get accomplished without it!
