Day #1. (January 26, 2023)
So today was day number one of starting the 75 Hard Challenge. Now I adjusted some of the “rules” so that way it was attainable with my current lifestyle. So I am personally calling it 75 Soft. I didn’t change much, but I did adjust a few things. Here are what the original rules are:
- Read 10 pages of a book every day.
- Drink 1 gallon of water a day
- Stick to a diet of your choice with health in mind. No cheat days. No alcohol.
- Have (2) 45-minute workouts. One must be outside.
- Take a progress picture every day.
Also, the idea is that this is not a weight loss or fitness challenge but a mental challenge. So, if you mess up one day you are supposed to start over on day one. I really liked the idea of this challenge when I was watching other creators participate…but I had two small adjustments.
- I have a baby, it’s winter, and I have limited time to work out. So I am keeping the total time (90 minutes) a day- but I can do it all at once and it doesn’t have to be outside. I feel that I am still accomplishing the challenge but also being realistic about what I can do. I will be putting in the effort to get exercise outside by walking my dog. But I wanted to check off this box even when I don’t get the opportunity to step outside.
- If I mess up one day- I am not starting over…I am just going to keep going. This is a mental challenge all on it’s own as I am a perfectionist…so my impulse would be to just give up if I mess up one day.
Other than that- the challenge is on. So starting today here is what I did:
- I will be starting with the book: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson. I am excited because I have been wanting to read this book for a while but I haven’t found a reason to pick it up.
- I have accomplished drinking a gallon of water…almost. I am about 20 ounces short. But damn…that was a lot of water.
- My personal diet goal for this challenge is no takeout (a restaurant meal is fine), limited dairy, and no meat. Did great today! We meal-prepped for the week to make my decisions easier!
- I did a cardio workout- an incline treadmill. Burned 197 calories. Nice. Then I wrapped up with an ABC workout. ( I spelled out DAY ONE because I am cute like that.), and then did the “twerk machine” and did 3 sets of ten-assisted pullups and tricep dips.
- And I did take a progress picture. I am posting those on gloopsiedaisy to track my progress.
I feel really excited and a little nervous. I am excited because I genuinely believe I can do this even though it will be challenging. I am a bit nervous to see a genuine change in my physique and mental stamina. I feel that I have a bit of my sense of self tethered to the idea of failure and changing that can feel pretty scary. But overall- doing all these things was really motivating, felt amazing, and I am looking forward to the challenge. I am tired from the long productive day so I will log off for the day. Wish me luck.
